Awareness precedes metanoia

I, Dr. KC Khulbe, am working as a Scientist in a public funded R&D institution under the Government of India. I am heading the Business Development Group of the institute. My job responsibilities include all activities related to business development viz. collaboration with industries, project management, etc. and also the intellectual property issues viz. their protection, management, commercialization, etc. The institute undertakes basic research in niche areas of toxicology. As intellectual property has become one of the major areas of concern for the economic growth of the country it is very important to handle it properly. We protect our intellectual property as patents and copyrights and also file trademarks from time-to-time.

Last year I got an opportunity to pursue LLM in Intellectual Property program of University of Turin in collaboration with WIPO (2006-2007 ed.). It was an excellent exposure for me in almost all aspects of intellectual property. It gave me an overall vision about the various aspects of intellectual property since the inception of the IP system and also made me aware about the perceptions of different IP Offices viz. USPTO, EPO, JPO, etc.

This exposure will not only help me in understanding the issues in a better way but enable to undertake the future assignments more effectively. I will try my best to disseminate the information I gathered during the period amongst Scientists and Research Fellows of the institute. 

As per my academic achievements during the program I also got an opportunity to undergo one month Internship at WIPO. It was a wonderful opportunity for me to interact with the world’s best experts in the field of intellectual property.
